Gallery FAQs:
Rob Shaw is primarily a palette knife painter. The palette knife, a tool originally used to mix paint on a palette, can create an array of textures that are impossible to achieve with a brush, such as sharp lines, broad, sweeping strokes of impasto, and interesting effects from sgraffito ("scratching") into the paint.
Palette knives also render brilliant colors. Artists use the knife to drag colors into each other, making stark edges, shifts in color, and distinct broken-color effects--all dependent on the amount of paint on the knife, the pressure applied by the artist, and the angle of the knife.

What is Rob Shaw’s style of painting?
Can I commission a Rob Shaw painting?
Yes! If you like one of his original oil paintings but need a different size for your space or if you are seeking a painting of a special scenery or place--perhaps a favorite spot in Columbia or a meaningful memory you want to preserve--Rob can turn your vision into a treasured artwork. Commissions also work well when a buyer needs to match a room's color palette.
Before coming in to discuss your commission, make notes about your vision for the painting; the the dimensions, color of the wall, size of the room, and lighing where you intend to hang the painting; and the motif of the furniture, fabrics, and wallpaper in the room.

Can I have a piece of fine art shipped to me?
Yes! Rob can safely ship artwork to your location. To discuss purchasing a piece of fine art, visit the gallery at 2123 Park Street, Columbia 29201, fill out the contact form below, or call Rob at 803.369.3159.
